Introduction

IBM-SPSS Statistics is one of the most frequently used software package in data analysis which can be used in several disciplines including health research, a three day workshop seminar in SPSS organized by Chromoluzo Global Ventures.

With the aimed to introduce SPSS and related features, participants will gain an understanding knowledge of when and why to use different data analysis techniques as well as how to apply them. The format of the workshop is instructor-led with hands-on practice on a set of exercises.

Key Contents of the workshop:

• SPSS structure, interface, and windows.

• Define the dataset variables and their attributes.

• Codebook and data gathering tools.

• Data entry and editing

• Import data to SPSS to create datasets.

• Data manipulations and transformation.

• Exploratory data analysis (EDA)

• Descriptive statistics, graphical presentations;

• Scales and Reliability assessment

• Hypothesis testing including Chi-square, t-test, ANOVA, Correlation, Regression,

• Non-parametric test = Mann Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis, Kendal Tau and Spea

• Epidemiological estimates and risk measures

1. Differentiate between parametric and nonparametric statistics.

2. Understand how the SPSS program works.

3. Input data into SPSS and save it.

4. Perform an analysis including advanced analysis by using SPSS.

5. Interpret the data output.

6. Report the statistical results correctly.

What you need to know as pre-requisites:

• No previous experience is required

• Participants with basic statistical knowledge, Microsoft Excel knowledge is an added advantage.
