Purported Zoning System In Ehime Mbano: Setting The Records Straight.

Following the continuous call for power shift in Ehime Mbano with emphasis on the House of Assembly seat, we the members of Ehime Mbano Transparency Group after a careful and calculative observation wish to use this publication to join our voices in expressly stating that zoning system never existed in the Local Government Area. We observed that from the outset, there was no time the people of Ehime Mbano sat on a round table to take decisions on arrangement for the distribution/sharing of power between the west and east bloc.

Put in a simple way, we do not have a document or charter of equity signed by the people of Ehime Mbano stating a zoning formula or system. However, the purported zoning arrangement in Ehime Mbano started in 1999. Rt. Hon Stanford Onyirimba of the blessed memory (west) was the first beneficiary. After serving out the first term of four years, he was reelected to the state House of Assembly from 2003 to 2007. Recall that during the period in review, the Executive Chairman of the LGA, Chief Dennis Agu was from the west likewise Chief John Nwaigwe, the Chairman of PDP the ruling party as it was.

In 2007, Hon. Barr. Ifeanyi Agwu (cast) was elected into the State House of Assembly. Before the expiration of his four years term, he fell out with the powers that be under the watch of Chief Sir Tony Chukwu and was denied a return ticket. However, Chief Sir Tony Chukwu single-handedly picked Hon. Kingsley Dimaku (east) who was residing in London to represent Ehime Mbano constituency between 2011 and 2015. Looking at the above, if we actually have an existing zoning arrangement in Ehime Mbano, why did Chief Sir Tony Chukwu insist that Hon. Kingsley Dimaku should be given a return ticket in 2015 against the wishes and aspirations of majority of the people?

Let us not be in a hurry to forget that in same 2015, Ehime Mbano West had the likes of Amb. Chief Uche Nwodu (Umunakanu), Hon. Chike Orjiako (Umuezcala), Barr. C.C. Duur (Umuezeala), Arc. Allen Enwerem (Umueze I), Engr. Tony Nnorom (Umuczeala), and Hon. Chima Okoro (Umualumaku/Umuihim) who indicated interest for the House of Assembly seat. Amongst the aforementioned great sons of Ehime Mbano west, Chief Sir Tony Chukwu did not see any of them as fit and worthy to occupy the position of a House of Assembly Member. Rather, he stood behind Hon. Kingsley Dimaku. That ill decision cost Ehime Mbano West the chances of returning to the House of Assembly as Rt. Hon. Lawman Duruji (East) emerged under APC.

Again in 2019, Rt. Hon. Lawman Duruji (east) re-contested the same position under the platform of Action Alliance (AA). In that election, Rt. Hon. Emeka Nduka (east) of APC, Engr. Tony Nnorom (west) PDP as well as lyke Ohaegbu (West) APGA equally ran for the State House of Assembly. Rt. Hon. Lawman Duruji was eventually declared the winner by INEC and the door for tribunal was opened. At the Tribunal, Chief Sir Tony Chukwu compelled Engr. Tony Nnorom and lyke Ohaegbu his brothers from the west to withdraw for Rt. Hon. Lawman Duruji while he supported Rt. Hon. Emeka Nduka to defeat Rt. Hon. Lawman Duruji at the Appeal Court. We have taken our time to go into the historical files of Ehime Mbano and the existing records of our political developments. In all our in-depth and thorough research, we could not find anything like zoning.

Having stated the above, we are using this medium to inform the good people of Ehime Mbano LGA and the general public that the east and west dichotomy is the creation of a few elites whose trade in stock is to defraud the masses.

We equally want to bring to the notice of the electorate that reintroduction of the zoning mantra at this central time in our political life was targeted at distracting us from focusing in our resolve to allow impositions in our Local Government Area as we request that all candidates should have a level playing ground ahead of the March 18 House of Assembly election.

Lastly, whoever emerges as the House of Assembly Member should work with the people of Ehime Mbano to establish a workable charter of equity which must be documented for a fair and balanced distribution of power.
