Saying 'No' to 'Drug Abuse' and Doing 'No' to 'Drug Abuse'.
Saying 'No' to 'Drug Abuse' and Doing 'No' to 'Drug Abuse'.
By Amb. Kelvin Alisi.
Saying is an act of using mouth to express an interest or opinion, which may have dual motive. Then, doing is another act that complements 'saying' and makes it tangible, visible and impactful.
You remember the primary definition of Verb. A Verb is an action word or a doing word. Funny it may be, let us clear the air to decode the message of the caption, "Saying 'No' to 'Drug Abuse' and Doing 'No' to 'Drug Abuse'".
As we mark the African drug free day from 26th January 2022, campaigns and lectures shall be launched to consolidate it. Much saying shall be made. Much laughing, clapping and all of that will be made.
Let us borrow a lesson from this, 'in cutting a tree with multiple branches, you must prune out the branches and hew the trunk down'. This is to avoid unforeseen damages.
Straight to the point. Nigeria people are known to be happy. The youth of Nigeria are great genius and happy too. Nigeria is among the countries with the best comedians. We have a great sense of humor.
In a recent survey, it is discovered that majority of drug addicts fell prey through frustration, peer pressure and inferiority complex.
Have you taken time to drive round the streets? Do you know that 60% of the young people roaming around the streets, Keke drivers, Okada riders, are graduates?
Do you know that today youths don't value education in Nigeria? It is simply because of unemployment. School is seen as scam and our politicians are helping to authenticate the illusive hypothesis. When it is news that education qualification is not a yardstick for elective offices... It is a matter for another day.
Let the necessity campaign against drug be accompanied with actions. The Federal and State government characters need to do the followings as campaigns are going on:
1. Reduce the hardship in the system.
2. Create an apolitical employment bureau.
3. Access to enterprise fund for young people.
4. Mentorship.
5. Cultural Awareness.
Bikonụ̀, as we bind drug abuse, let us bind what leads to it. When every youth is engaged, drug abuse will die gradually.
Say 'No' to 'Drug Abuse' and Do 'No' to 'Drug Abuse'.
